A mom gets her son back
Imagine what it would be like to watch your young adult child slip further and further away from reality and into the world of addiction. His personality changes. He becomes deceptive; a liar and a thief. He develops suicidal tendencies and threatens the lives of people in his family. Suddenly, your entire world seems to be chaotic and in disorder. You watch him waste his life as everything spirals out of control. You didn’t raise him this way. This isn’t the way things were supposed to turn out.
Watching a person plunge into the dark waters of addiction is heart wrenching, especially for a parent. One such mom dropped her son off at Wheeler Mission in July. She feared he wouldn’t live much longer if he didn’t change the course of his life. They both were desperate for help.
Now, three months later, her son is making great progress in our Addiction Recovery Program. Years of drug abuse took a toll on him physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. He now is regaining a sense of purpose in life, and striving to become the man he was meant to be – responsible, honest, and seeking the Lord in all things.
When you ask his mother how she feels about his progress, she just smiles and says, “I am a very thankful Mom.”
And rightfully so, after all, she’s getting her son back!
